The Sanctuary at Lakota Farms is a horse rescue and animal refuge located in Central Florida created to provide the best quality care and rehabilitation to animals that have been abused, discarded, or altogether forgotten.
Before Lakota Farms became an actual sanctuary, it was established for private use by the founder for his horse pastures and a few newly added rescues but quickly became a place where the local community knew they could bring animals that had been found in distress or request rescue missions for injured, abused and neglected animals.
As word spread through the local community and surrounding areas, so did the number of animals arriving at the property requiring care and rehabilitation. This ultimately led to establishing The Sanctuary at Lakota Farms as a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

At The Sanctuary at Lakota Farms, we are committed to providing a second chance to horses that have suffered neglect, abuse, and mistreatment. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome these animals, providing them with the care and attention they need to recover and thrive. For those horses that are unable to be rehomed due to ongoing medical issues or age, we offer a safe haven where they can live out their lives with dignity, respect, and love.
We are called on a rescue mission quite often by the local community or by those who cannot find the time or afford to care for their horses on a regular basis and bring them to the sanctuary for safety.
We seek the appropriate veterinary care when necessary and ensure adequate exercise and rehabilitation as well as provide food and shelter so that the horses in need can properly heal and regain strength, physically and emotionally.
You can make a difference.
Be a part of something bigger by helping those who cannot speak for themselves.
"You know, we don't always win the struggle, and as strong as I might be, losing our rescue, Bear, really messed me up...
When he didn't make it, it hit me hard and broke me down. It's like this thing they call compassion burnout kicked in."
