*Update*
Sadly, cookie passed away due to such extreme starvation and we were not able to save him. In the last 3 weeks of his life, however, he was showered with love and attention, and all his needs were fulfilled.
We knew he was at peace when he departed because we were able to save his daughter from the same place we rescued them both from.

We recently received a phone call from someone in the local community about a horse in a neighboring property being neglected and abused. When we arrived at the property and spoke with the owner, they acknowledged that they had been unable to afford proper care for the horse. Cookie was living under dire conditions, unsheltered from the Florida sun. He was emaciated from being underfed. We also learned he’d never had any vaccinations. Poor Cookie is in pretty bad shape.
Upon his recent surrender, he is at a body score of 1, he is hundreds of pounds underweight, and this poor guy is so weak that he trips over his feet. He is sweet as can be, with beautiful, caring eyes. So far, he seems to be adjusting well to the love and attention he receives from everyone here.
We have Cookie on a special diet three times a day, and he gets let out to graze the pasture 3 to 4 times a day. It will be a slow recovery, but we genuinely believe he will regain his strength and confidence to be the beautiful horse we can still see shine through his eyes.
Follow us on Facebook for current updates and see his progress.
